This Might Just Be Better Than SEX!

Did you know there’s a huge connection and link between SEX and being MOTIVATED?

It’s true…

Recently I was learning all lot about how the brain tiggers motivation, and what I learnt was fascinating!

There is a HUGE correlation between motivation, success and having a healthy body and healthy mind… 

…and it shouldn’t be underestimated!

There is a saying about motivation by Zig Ziglar that goes…

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

… But how do we become motivated and how do we keep motivated each day?

Turns out that one of the main players in staying motivated, is that neurotransmitter everybody loves to talk about called Dopamine.

Dopamine has been thought of mainly in the past as the chemical responsible for pleasure, but more and more these days, there is evidence that Dopamine is actually responsible for encouraging us to act… either to achieve something good or to avoid something bad!

It simply isn’t there to just make us feel good.

Dopamine spikes for many reasons, such as foods, exercise, close relationships, but did you know that higher levels of dopamine are found in motivated and ambitious people?

This means that when you are motivated and achieving, you will have more dopamine releases and you will feel good! 

Who doesn’t want to feel good, right?

Dopamine is also the main neurotransmitter that makes men and women feel good before and after sex.

The anticipation and build up of sex triggers dopamine releases and then afterwards… well, lets just say there’s a significant increase in Dopamine there too!

Having sex regularly causes us to maintain higher levels of dopamine, and so too does being in a state of motivation and inspiration.

If you want to feel like you do during sex, then get motivated in your daily life!

If you are feeling flat right now, then it may be because you’re not motivated, inspired (or having enough sex… or maybe all three), so you need to do something about it to increase your dopamine levels and start to feel GREAT!

I can’t help you with the sex part, but I can help you with becoming  motivated and inspired beyond your imagination.

THE WORDS NO PARENT WANTS TO HEAR FROM THEIR CHILD

(A TEARJERKER) 😥

On Saturday morning, I had plans to meet my Team at Coaching HQ and deliver SALONGROWTHCON flyers to nearby salons…

The task was a simple one… let’s meet up, head to the salons, drop in some flyers, build awareness of our SALONGROWTHCON event, and then be home mid afternoon.

I woke up on the Saturday morning and said to my wife ‘so what’s the plans today?’

She told me she was taking our two boys (Jack who’s 6 and Oscar who’s 11 months) to see the Easter Bunny.

All is well in my mind… I mean, what kid doesn’t love seeing the Easter Bunny, right?

So I get ready to go and meet the Team, and then just as Im about to leave, Jack turns around to me and says ‘where are you going Daddy? You’re not going to work are you?’

I told him I was and that I’d be home again in the afternoon.

‘But Dad, I never see you anymore and we never do things together like we used to!’

My heart broke into a million pieces!

I have been working really long hours lately to get this SALONGROWTHCON event off the ground, and much like he misses me… I miss my family too!

I told him that I was going dropping off some things to different shops today and he could come with me if he wanted to!

He jumped at the chance and with a resounding ‘YES’, he ran upstairs to get dressed!

Whilst he was getting dressed, my wife said to me ‘You know Bill, last night, Milli (his cousin) said to him ‘what time is your Dad getting home?’

His reply “Not until late. I never see my Dad anymore!’

Again, my heart was crushed! I was devastated!

It played on my mind all day as the two of us went all through the Gold Coast dropping flyers off and saying hello to salons. We chased Pokemon together, stopped in and had burgers, I chased him around some of the shops playing tag…

… and generally tried to make it as fun and memorable as possible!

We had a great day together, but it did remind me how hard it is for business owners everywhere, every single day who try to pursue their dreams, whilst still trying to be their for their partners and children!

It is such a hard thing to do, and so hard to not have parent’s guilt!

For me, I know this is short term and I know that once we complete SALONGROWTHCON, and it’s a huge success, I can better provide for my family, their lives will be better for it and I can make sure I make up for the lost time with them.

Im a great Dad I think, and I always try my hardest to not only be there for them, but to set an example also about what it means to follow your passion, work hard, never give up and achieve your dreams!

I just think sometimes I need to remind myself of that, especially when confronted with it head on like I was with Jack.

I wanted to write this today as a shout out to all the entrepreneurs out their who know what it feels like to have this guilt, and to let you know that it’s ok.

There are many, many people who have it too, but as long as you are 100% present when you are with your loved ones, you have good intent, you are trying your best and they know you love them…

Then keep going!

You will be the role model one day that they look up to for the rest of their lives!

Your Dreams Can Come True!

5 years ago I put a post on Facebook inside a Beauty Therapist group asking if any salon owners would be interested in having some sales training.

I got over 200 comments saying yes, but excitement soon turned to extreme disappointment!! 😓

Apparently somebody saw the post as inappropriate, and without hesitation, the admins took it down… BEFORE I could confirm people’s details!

In between the period of time I posted and it was taken down, I had already booked a location in Melbourne and had spent money on the deposit. (Foolish I know, but I was excited!) 😆

I was so disappointed when I could no longer access these people’s details, and worse than that, I wasn’t allowed to repost and ask!

I managed to salvage some of the names, and I pushed forward anyways – I’d already paid money out after all!

30 days later after scrambling madly to get some people to attend and at least cover costs, I hosted my first ever sales training in Melbourne, with 25 people in attendance. 🤗

Last year I upped the ante, and hosted 7 seminars in Auckland, Christchurch, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Each event had around 50 – 100 people attend, which was a step up from the Sales Training events I had been running.

This year, I decided to MASSIVELY increase the size and scale, and I will be hosting SALONGROWTHCON in June for 1,500 people!! 🤩

From 25 people in a small hotel in Melbourne, to 1,500 people inside a massive arena at the Gold Coast Convention Centre with a HUGE international celebrity speaker…

… all within 5 years.

We’re Giving Back and Helping The Kids!!

We thought long and hard about which charity to partner with for SALONGROWTHCON, and we couldn’t go past…… Bravehearts! 

Did you know that Bravehearts is Australia’s leading child protection organisation?? 

Well, they are, and this is part of the reason why we chose them to be our partner.

The thing is, nearly all of our team here at Billy Rickman Coaching are parents, and so the thought of a single child being hurt, hits really close to home for us!!

My Prophecy: The RISE Of Artificial Intelligence!

This blog may just freak you out!!

For the past 18 months, Ive been banging on about the power of Bots! (NO, this isn’t another Bot episode 😋)

Whenever someone tells me they don’t work, or they’re just a fad, or they don’t like them…. 

… My response is ‘what… you don’t like money?’ 🤑

Bots make my clients more money, get more bookings and build more profitable businesses, than any other single marketing tool…. BY FAR!

10 Things That Are Hurting Your Salon!

We all have them.

The things that we are doing frequently and consistently that are hurting our salon…

and our future successes.

Even though Ive been in business now for over a decade and made every mistake you’re told not to make, I still make mistakes and Im still making mistakes today.

Im not sure if making mistakes is necessarily all together bad, though.

I mean, yes, it hurts sometimes in terms of lost time and money…

…but as long as the mistake isn’t too massive, I look at mistakes sometimes as a way to at least know that I’m still taking risks… and that’s important to me.

Let me be clear about this though – there is a VERY big difference between carelessness and recklessness! Don’t be reckless.

So simple mistakes aren’t all together bad, but there are things that are in your salon right now, that you are responsible for, that are hurting you far more than simple mistakes. So let’s have a look:

1. Not Being a Subject Matter Expert on Marketing and Sales – Boy, if I had a dollar for every time somebody asked me what the biggest thing is that would change my business. The answer is always the same.

Become a master at marketing and sales. Read, listen and watch from the greatest marketers and sales people…. repeat. If you are not the subject matter expert in your business when it comes to marketing and sales, then it is massively hurting your salon! Learn this – it is the number one thing.

2. Sitting On The Fence – They say a million dollar idea comes at you once a day. Too often though, we wait and see, before taking action.

Your lack of courage to take advantage of opportunities, be one of the first to do something, learn a brand new skill or implement something completely revolutionary is hurting you in more ways than you can imagine.

Stop sitting on the fence with things, and either take the leap or find something else to leap into. Sitting on the fence is hurting your business.

3. Marketing To The Middle Class – Either adopt a ‘low cost – high volume’ model, or a ‘high cost – low volume’ model. Using a ‘middle cost – middle volume’ model puts you in the middle… or another word for the middle, is the ‘average‘.

When you play in the world of the average, you get average results. If you’re answer to the question ‘how are you priced?‘ is ‘we’re not the most expensive, and we’re not the cheapest‘ then you need to stop and reassess.

Pick a market, pick a model, but don’t pick the middle class model. It’s very busy and very hard to make a difference.

4. Not Having a Membership Program – A membership program is fundamental to any business these days. Not having one can be like death by a thousand cuts. Loyalty is dying, but every business still needs and desires it.

A membership program will give you peace of mind with guaranteed consistent client numbers, and with guaranteed monthly sales.

Not having this, whilst your competitors do, is hurting your salon.

5. Not Planning Your Marketing – When you don’t plan your marketing, it’s called reactive marketing. This is what businesses do all the time, and often what leads to massive wastage in marketing costs… and lack of any real results.

Spend some time to map out your marketing plan for the year. When you market reactively, it hurts your salon, so be proactive.

6. Not Knowing Your Numbers – It amazes me how few salon owners know their finances. Don’t get me wrong. I used to be like that, until I realised not only how much money I was losing by not knowing, but also, how much I was losing out on, in missed revenue.

It’s not as hard as you think to learn, so do yourself a massive favour and at least learn your profit & loss, cashflow and managing your budget. These are the basics you must master.

7. Not Having A Point of Difference – This one is similar to marketing to the middle class. When you don’t have a point of difference, you are amongst the average.

A strong point of difference will allow you to not have to compete on price, will give you a unique message with your marketing… and you will be remembered. I have to point out on this one, that your customer service and your products are NOT a point of difference. It has to be something, unique, different, memorable.

8. Competing on Price – The temptation is always there to be the cheapest. After all, that’s how some of the big players do it.

We convince ourselves that the most affordable, wins the game. But it’s not actually what client’s want.

Instead of lowering your price, increase what your customer gets. Value add, and give them more (or something different) than what your competitors are.

9. Staying a Technician – The normal pattern for a salon owner is that they have been a therapist or a hairdresser, moved into management and then opened their own business.

The problem is, business is totally different to hair or beauty, and requires a totally different set of skills for you to be successful.

If you spend your days cutting hair or waxing or doing facials, and not on marketing, sales and finances, then it is hurting your salon.

10. Waiting for Technology to Slow Down – Business is speeding up, not slowing down. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat… will all be a thing of the past soon, as new technology will replace it.

Facebook Ads have already changed massively this year, and businesses have had to change strategies to get results.

If you are hoping and praying that this online marketing thing and social media, will soon go away, unfortunately, you need to change your mindset.

Things are speeding up, it’s getting more technical and it’s essential you keep ahead of this. Don’t rely on others to know this for you, don’t hope it will go away. You need to learn technology or it will harm your business.

ONE LAST ONE…

Using gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc. as your email address. This is hurting your customer perception.

It costs next to nothing to set your custom email up, and it looks a hundred times more professional. Make a great first impression and make sure that you’re using your custom email domain. 

So that’s it. These are 10 things harming your salon. Don’t beat yourself up about it if your committing many of these sins, but know that you need to do something about it and eliminate these if you want the best shot at success.

Ok, Is Email Really, REALLY Dead?…

A few months ago, I did an episode on my Podcast asking the questions ‘Is email dead?

It’s now a few months on, and a few people have been asking me if I still feel the same way. My answer…

Well… I still feel the same way as I did back then, but what does that mean?

Email used to be the go to for marketing. It used to be the thing all marketers told you to do… ‘build your list’.

The thing is though, that since email first came onto the marketing scene around 20 years ago, there have also been some massive changes to marketing.

We said hello to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Blogging, Podcasting, Bots… and so many more things.

With all this noise, email has now become ‘A’ thing, but not THE’ thing marketers use to market their business…

… and more than that, is that in terms of conversion, it actually ranks pretty low these days for B2C (Business 2 Consumer). Dont get me wrong, I love email for B2B (Business 2 Business), but since almost all of my audience are entrepreneurs marketing to consumers…

… the fact remains that email really is pretty much dead! 

Some people might read this and say that that’s not true and they get a good result from email, but lets look at it when we compare it to other strategies.

Below is an image of one single Bot post that I posted from one of my Inner Circle’s Bot accounts, last Friday.

The result?

This one single Bot got 131 Bookings at an average sale of $200! 

That’s $26,200 in sales from a single Bot! You can also do the same with Facebook Ads! I showed a video on my page recently where I got 249 Clients in 18 Days.

YES, email is free, but so too are Bots! Yes, Facebook costs money, but the return can be massive! 

Im not saying that email is completely dead, but when you compare it to other platforms these days, the conversion simply isnt there that you can get from other platforms…

ESPECIALLY when you consider the time it takes a small business owner to create email content!

Has my opinion changed on email, maybe. It’s not dead, but definitely an expiring option for business owners who market direct to consumers.

They are for Hair Salons and for Day Spas. They are for Barbershops and for Skin Clinics. Whatever your model, I have used these strategies to grow many businesses just like yours. You wont know though, unless you attend! 
  3. I’m Already Busy Enough – There is no such thing as already busy enough. Businesses who say that, are usually businesses that are out of business in a few years! It’s easy to ride the wave when it’s high, but you also need to protect your business when the tide eventually goes out…and it will. That’s what you will learn at the event!
  4. I’m Not A Big Salon – Much like the different business models, these strategies also work whether you are a massive salon with 12 rooms, or a small salon with one room. Marketing is marketing, and business  strategy is business strategy. It doesn’t matter what the size of the business or how much you currently turn over, the strategies you will learn, will be able to be implemented in your business to GROW! 
  5. I Can’t Get A Day Off – There’s 365 days in the year, and you just need to find one. If it’s a priority, then you’ll find a way. If it’s not then you won’t. Trust me, you will be grateful once you’re there and you are filling your mind with tonnes of awesome strategies to massively grow your business! Regret is a terrible thing, and I dont want you to regret not attending this once a year event!

I’m A Sole Operator, I Don’t Have Staff – Look, unless you want to spend the rest of your life chained to your business, never able to go away, always having to be at work; then one day you will need staff! To get to that point, you need to GROW. You will learn how to do exactly that at this event!

How I Got 249 New Clients For One Salon In 18 Days

Every business needs two types of marketing – Client Nurture Marketing, or in other words, marketing to your existing database…

… and marketing to new Clients! 

Most salons are good at marketing to existing Clients, but they struggle getting new people in the door to fill the rooms!

The thing is, most people are so jaded by businesses and salons these days, and it takes a lot for someone to trust you on what you say!

It seems that now there are only 3 ways to overcome this. You can:

  1. Provide tonnes of social proof (testimonials and referrals)
  2. Be insanely good at writing ads or;
  3. Provide a low barrier to entry (LBT) offer that allows new clients to dip their toes in the water, and see for themselves how good you are, without a massive commitment.

I teach my Inner Circle Clients to always look at LBT’s around the $20 – $40 mark, and make sure that the service you offer, is something they’re going to remember and come back for.

It’s not a bad thing to use an LBT to get people in…

It IS a bad thing to constantly discount in order to keep people coming back.

Will you get bargain hunters from this strategy?…. Sure, you’ll get a couple.

But you will also get a tonne of great new clients that will keep your salon full, pumping… and the cash register ringing!
